National Survey on the Public Perception on the Reuse of Treated Industrial Water

National Survey on the Public Perception on the Reuse of Treated Industrial Water

The Al-Attiyah Foundation, in partnership with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has launched a national survey on the public perception on the reuse of treated industrial water.

Oil and gas industries generate by-product water (wastewater) and bio-solids in their production processes. The wastewater is purified to the highest level using the best available technology in what is defined as Treated Industrial Wastewater (TIW). The bio-solids remaining from the wastewater treatment process are treated and can be used to improve the conditions of soils. The purpose of this national survey is to investigate the public attitude in the country of Qatar towards utilizing these by-products for everyday uses.

The survey was launched during the Annual Research Open Day 2019 of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s College of Science and Engineering (CSE), and is currently being rolled out across Qatar. Conducted in two phases, the survey will first collect data and then the findings will be analyzed by PHD students at HBKU’s CSE with the help of the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
