Doha: 22 October 2025
Yesterday, the former CEO of WOQOD, Mohamed Turki Al Sobai, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement for the Advancement of Qatar’s Energy Industry Award at the 2025 Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards.
The prestigious event, held at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, welcomed more than 300 dignitaries who gathered to recognise six outstanding leaders for their exceptional accomplishments and contributions to the global energy industry.
This year’s winners included H.E. Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for International Energy Policy and Diplomacy; Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman & CEO of TotalEnergies, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Natural Gas; Steven Chu, 12th U.S. Secretary of Energy and Professor at Stanford University, who was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Education for Future Energy Leaders; Ignacio Galán, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Renewables; and Russell Gold, writer at Texas Monthly, who was recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Energy Journalism.
To ensure that the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards celebrate true excellence in the energy industry, the Al-Attiyah Foundation’s International Selection Committee thoroughly evaluates and scores a shortlist of exceptional candidates. The results are then compiled to determine the final honourees.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Attiyah Foundation and Qatar’s former Minister of Energy, said:
“It is a privilege to celebrate the exceptional achievements of this year’s honourees, whose dedication and innovation continue to drive progress in the global energy sector. Their contributions have not only advanced the industry today but will also serve as an enduring source of inspiration for generations to come.”
